“Shopee and Tokopedia Announce Fee Increase for Online Shopping in Jakarta”

People who want to shop online now have to reach deeper into their pockets because of two online shopping applications Shopee and Tokopedia just announced a fee increase.

The increase in costs for the two online shopping applications is subject to different cost components.

At Tokopedia, the increase occurred in the application service fee component from previously IDR 1,000 to IDR 2,000-3,000.

Tokopedia’s Head of Corporate Affairs, Ekhel Chandra Wijaya said, his party implemented a service fee of Rp. 1,000 for each transaction using the virtual account payment method, which took effect last Tuesday (2/5).

However, apart from these payment methods, this service fee also applies to other payment methods in accordance with the terms and conditions that apply.

“As of May 2, 2023, Tokopedia has implemented a service fee of IDR 1,000 for each transaction using the virtual account payment method. Apart from the virtual account payment method, this service fee has also previously been applied to a number of other payment methods, according to the terms and conditions that apply,” he explained.

Ekhel added that his party would return the application service fee if the user cancels the transaction. Of course, according to the return/refund process that applies to the payment method used.

“If the entire goods purchase transaction is cancelled, the application service fee will be fully returned to the user in accordance with the return/refund process that applies to the payment method used,” he said.

Even though it applies to different service components, however, an increase in service fees also occurs in the online shopping application Shopee.

This application increases service fees for ShopeePay top ups on several channels. This policy has been in effect since May 1, 2023.

“Thank you for being loyal ShopeePay users! Starting May 1, 2023, there will be adjustments to ShopeePay balances via Instant Debit, bank transfers (Virtual Accounts) and merchants,” wrote Shopee, quoted Wednesday (3/5/2023) .

For example, if a user tops up ShopeePay via BCA OneKlik (Instant Debit), which was previously free of admin fees, now a fee of IDR 1,000 will be charged.

Then, if a user tops up ShopeePay via a BSI Virtual Account, from the previous Rp. 500, now a fee of Rp. 1,000 will be charged.
