54 tons of waste did not have to be disposed of last year, but could be reused in the ReVital shop. “Our employees in the waste collection centers are equipped with X-ray vision,” says Manuela Gschwandtner, Chairwoman of the District Waste Association (BAV) in Vöcklabruck. In eight of the 13 ASZ locations in the district, well-preserved old goods can be collected, which are given a second life in the ReVital shop.
“In our affluent society, a lot ends up in the trash, even though it still works,” says Karl-Heinz Zeitlinger, BAV branch manager. These things are processed and offered in cooperation with Volkshilfe in the ReVital shop in Timelkam. “This is now the largest trading center for second-hand goods,” says Gschwandtner. Children’s items are most in demand there. Everyone can shop in the new shop and thus make a contribution to avoiding waste.
Less garbage last year
In 2022, more than half a ton of waste was disposed of per citizen in the district. That is 4.4 percent less than the year before. The decline in volume can be explained by the corona pandemic, when people in the 2020/21 lockdown cleared out their own four walls and literally stormed the waste collection centers.
The BAV chairwoman never tires of promoting precise waste separation: the more precisely the waste is separated, the lower the disposal costs. In the previous year, around 60,000 euros could be saved because bulky waste was separated more precisely. As a result, the quantities have halved since 2006.
Plastic and metal packaging is increasingly being disposed of in the yellow sack and not in the ASZ. It would be the best alternative that would reduce the waste fees. Incidentally, the BAV has nothing to do with collecting the yellow bags, which is still causing trouble.
rubbish in numbers
511 Kilo: That is the amount of waste that every citizen in the Vöcklabruck district disposed of in 2022. That is 35 kilos or 4.4 percent less than the year before. Nevertheless, it is still 1.4 kg of waste per day.
83,35 Kilo: This is how much residual waste is produced on average by everyone in the Vöcklabruck district every year. The highest per capita accrues in Vöcklabruck (117 kg), the least in Puchkirchen (25).
66 kilos of waste paper per inhabitant must be disposed of in the district of Vöcklabruck. The slight decline of almost six percent is attributed to increased online advertising.
