New York police and robbers staged a shootout this morning in Chelsea, one of the most bohemian and festive neighborhoods in Manhattan.
The incident happened when NYPD agents confronted two criminals carrying out a robbery in a nightclub. Plainclothes police officers were patrolling in the area of West 21st Street and 7th Avenue this morning shortly before 3 am when a bouncer from the “Doux Supper Club” bar alerted them to a robbery in progress.
When officers arrived, two suspects were assaulting a person at the nightclub located at 59 W 21st St, police said. The officers tried to intervene, but one of the robbers opened fire on them.
The officers returned the attack. ABC News reported that there were people in the street at the time of the exchange of fire and one of the bullets allegedly hit an Uber. Miraculously no injuries were reported.

The robbers fled in a light-colored sedan, possibly an Audi, police said. The getaway vehicle was last seen heading west on West 21st Street toward 7th Avenue.
West 21st Street between 5th and 6th Avenues and 20th Street and 6th Av were closed this morning due to the police investigation. This is the same place where a man was shot and a police patrol was hit by gunfire last week, on July 18.
