Section leader at the section for administrative control in the Oslo police district, Marius Gaarde, informs that during an inspection last week discoveries were made. This led to the shooting range now being closed.

– During the shooting range inspection last week, the police observed certain deviations from the regulations for shooting ranges, and considered that it was not safe to use the range until these are corrected. For the same reason, an administrative case was opened regarding this, writes Gaarde in an e-mail to Dagbladet.

Oslo newspaper mentioned the matter first.

The shooting facility is used, among other things, by several of the Norwegian national team athletes, in addition to hundreds of children and young people. They now do not get the opportunity to train in the national facility.

– What kind of discovery are we talking about?

– Which specific findings do we not want to go into further, Gaarde replies.

Oslobygg is the owner of the facility. Dagbladet has been in contact with press contact Trond Borge Ottersen. He says that the users of the facility have been notified, and that they are now awaiting a letter from the police, in which they will be told what comments they have after the aforementioned inspection.

Will not comment

On Holmenkollen’s Facebook page they write:

– We apologize for the consequences this has for everyone who uses the track. Oslobygg, as owner of the facility, is working to clarify the situation. We do not expect that there will be a need for extensive measures, but it may take some time before the track is reopened.

– Arrested

Dagbladet has asked the Oslo police district how long they envisage the shooting range being closed.

– We have a common wish with the owner of the range that it can be opened for shooting again as soon as possible. We cannot per now give a time perspective on this.

– Have you made any discoveries during previous checks in Holmenkollen?

– We do not wish to comment on checks that have been carried out previously.

Children and young people are affected

Marketing and communications manager at the Norwegian Biathlon Union, Emilie Nordskar, despairs that the facility is now closed.

– This is primarily sad for the around 200 children and young people who train in Holmenkollen on a daily basis, says Nordskar to Dagbladet.

Merciless message in Kollen

The shutdown also has a lot to say for the Norwegian elite runners. Both Tarjei Bø, Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold and Filip Fjeld Andersen train a lot in Holmenkollen. Now they have to find other places to train before the World Cup starts in Östersund in a month’s time.

– It affects quite a lot. Our elite runners are now in a critical period before the start of the season and the World Cup, and now they will have to change their plans, says Nordskar.

The Norwegian biathletes open their season at Sjusjøen on 10 November. You can find a full overview of the World Cup below:
