Two gunmen opened fire on a group last night, injuring six men outside a park in the Bronx (NYC).
The victims were outside a nearby building at about 8:15 p.m St James’s Park, near E. 191st St. and Morris Ave., when two men arrived and immediately opened fire, according to the NYPD.
All of the injured were reported to be in stable condition and have been questioned by detectives, but it is not yet clear if they knew the gunmen. “Some cooperate and some don’t,” a police source said Daily News.
“There were several people hanging around under the scaffolding,” said Bronx County Patrol Officer Benjamin Gurley. “Two men, one with a helmet and one without, past St James Park, parked a scooter in the park and walked up the stairs. They fired about nine bullets at the group that was there, hitting six people.”
Gurley said that when police arrived, two victims were at the scene and the other four were admitted to Queens and Bronx hospitals. No arrests have been made or any suspects identified. Gun violence is constant in New York and some victims are hit at random on streets, schools, public transport and businesses. The fights are usually linked to a battle between gang members for territory and Suspects often incriminate themselves by bragging and posting about their crimes on social media.
Recently Romaán Martínez, construction superintendent, was killed inside the mobile home where he lived in the Bronx. The NYPD released a photo of the gunman, who remains at large.
Last week another Hispanic man was shot dead in the Bronx: to Miguel Cruz, a 47-year-old man, they shot at him from a motorcycle at 1600 Sedgwick Av.
