Shooting Incident in Christiania: Copenhagen Police and Emergency Services Respond

A large police operation is taking place in Christiania in the Danish capital on Saturday evening.

The police were notified of the incident just before 7.30pm. Around an hour later, the police confirmed that several people had been hit by gunfire.

Ambulances, police and emergency vehicles are on the scene with large forces.

It is currently unknown exactly how many people have been shot or what the extent of their damage is.

Christiania is an alternative residential area that over the years has been allowed a large degree of autonomy. The area is often referred to as a haven and is known, among other things, for allowing the extensive sale of drugs.

According to BT and Extra Magazine is a person connected to the Hells Angels among those affected, but this has so far not been officially confirmed by the police.

– We heard ten to fifteen shots

Swedish Anton Larsson was on the scene when the shooting began. He was out drinking Danish beer with some mates.

– There were a lot of people there. A lot of people.

He says that the shooting happened suddenly.

– We heard ten to fifteen shots. It slammed right behind the wall where we were sitting. It sounded like there were multiple weapons involved.

He says that the masses of people immediately started fleeing towards the same exit.

– It was not something nice to look at. I tried to help some people who were lying on the ground and get them to safety. Those who could help did so.

He estimates that it took between ten and fifteen minutes before the police were on the scene. He describes the minutes as long.

– An entire SWAT team came, the American police’s special forces. Often used colloquially about special forces in other countries. .

– Was pale in the face

Siblings Reshna Mahmoud and Halmat Mahmoud witnessed the events after the shooting.

– Everyone ran out and were completely pale in the face. They ran and ran and ran, Reshna describes.

She goes on to say that there were people at the scene who said “there is someone shooting with an AKAKEt Russian rifle. .”

Police cars, military cars and ambulances came. It was dramatic, it was like in a movie, she continues.

Halmat says that they stayed for an hour.

– We saw two injured people who were sent to the ambulance. A woman was injured in the arm, and a man who had been shot, but I didn’t see where, he says.

The sister says that there were many people standing around in the area who were clearly shaken.

– People were upset and crying outside.

They say they saw no sign of the perpetrator.

– I don’t think they know who was responsible for the shooting. When we left there were still police in the area. It seemed like they were taking it easy.

Blocked by area

– We have cordoned off a larger area and ask that this cordon be respected, the police in Copenhagen write in an update at 21:01.

According to Danish BT, which is present, the shooting happened at the building called Stjerneskibet in Pusher Street. The newspaper also writes that people have been taken away from the scene in an ambulance.

Residents of Christiania have recently protested against the behavior of criminal gangs in the district and demanded that the police stop the open drug trade in Pusher Street.
