A turf war over drug deals escalates in Harburg‘s Phoenix district. Shots are fired, two men are injured. The alleged perpetrators must now expect to be sentenced to years in prison.
The two accused brothers, aged 28 and 33, are charged with attempted joint homicide in conjunction with grievous bodily harm and violations of the Weapons Act, the regional court’s press office announced.
Shots in Harburg: What’s behind the crime?
The background to the crimes is said to have been turf wars in connection with drug deals. On the evening of October 26, 2023, the two Turks are said to have gotten into an argument in the backyard of a residential building with a 28-year-old and a 29-year-old at the time of the crime and injured both of them with gunfire. It was probably about drug dealing.
Suddenly the older of the brothers is said to have pulled out a 9mm caliber firearm, aimed it at the 28-year-old and pulled the trigger. His friend fled to a nearby kiosk on Wilstorfer Strasse. The two brothers chased him. While the older one shot at him, the younger one is said to have hit him. According to the indictment, he hit him with 29 punches and kicks. The brothers are said to have only let go of him when a witness intervened. The man was seriously injured and taken to hospital by ambulance.
Defendant arrested in December 2023
The police searched for the escapees with a large contingent. The officers received information about a white Mercedes, which they found shortly afterwards in front of a hospital in Harburg. There were three men sitting inside, one of them the 28-year-old who was shot in the backyard. He had a fractured femur and an abdominal injury.
The arrests followed at the beginning of December. Officials from the special operations team searched the apartments of the two suspected brothers and a bar in Heimfeld on Stader Strasse. The investigators seized extensive evidence, including a live firearm and associated ammunition in various hiding places, a high-quality car, cash and drugs.
