Shooting in Chicago, one year old boy killed in mom's car

A 1-year-old boy was shot dead while driving with his mother in the Englewood neighborhood of southern Chicago. Local police said so, explaining that gunshots were reported around 2:00 PM local time on South Halsted Street near West 60th Place. According to the head of operations of the Chicago police department, Fred Waller, the baby’s mother, about 22 years old, had left a laundromat and was driving south on Halsted when someone on board another vehicle was he approached and opened fire, hitting the boy in the chest and smearing his mother. About seven to eight shots were fired in the incident, leading the police to believe that the shooting was not accidental.

During a press conference, Waller called for an end to the violence, pointing out that incidents like these are happening too often. Just last weekend, 104 people were injured during the shootings across the city, including a 3-year-old boy who was shot dead in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago. “When will this end?” asked Waller. “When will we say this is too much?” “We will take the person who killed that three year old boy. We will take the person who killed this child,” he assured.

The mayor Lori Lightfoot, who in a tweet dealt with the death of the child, was also upset, adding that she is “tired of burying our children”.
