Shooting: Driver killed while crossing Washington Bridge from New York to NJ; his car crashed

A man was shot and killed last night while driving across the Washington Bridge, busy arterial road connecting New Jersey with Upper Manhattan in New York.

The 41-year-old victim was shot in the torso around 10:40 p.m. while driving to the bridge entrance ramp at 181st Street and Amsterdam Avenue, NYPD said.

He was the only fatal victim in at least four shootings recorded last night in the city, adding another day of armed violence this week, including four deaths on Tuesday, the police said.

Apparently, kept driving after being shot and crashed his truck Red Dodge near the entrance ramp of the Cross Bronx Expressway, on the Bronx side. Paramedics responded and took the man to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The name of the victim has not been released, pending notification to the family. The motive for the shooting is also unclear and police did not have a description of the suspect this morning, he said. New York Post.

Earlier last night two teens, ages 18 and 19, were shot on public housing grounds (NYCHA) Monroe Houses in the Bronx about an hour apart. It is unclear if the two shootings are linked.

Hours later, a 37-year-old woman was injured in the left arm by an apparent stray bullet that went through her bedroom window in a first-floor apartment on Troy Avenue near Dean Street in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, around 1:20 a.m. today. She was taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition. Police have not determined who was the target of the shooting.

No arrests have been made in any of these shootings. In a case similar to that of the bridge, last week a 30-year-old man was stabbed in an argument on a street in the Bronx and managed to get into a car for help, but it crashed six blocks away, dying behind the wheel.
