Shooting at Philadelphia Gas Station Leaves 71-Year-Old Man and Grandson Injured

PHILADELPHIA – A shooting at a gas station in Philadelphia on Saturday evening has left a 71-year-old man and his 5-year-old grandson injured. The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. at a gas station located at 61st Street and Passyunk Avenue.

According to the Philadelphia police, the victims were shot while sitting in a white Nissan. The 71-year-old grandfather, who was driving the vehicle, was shot in the leg and is currently in extremely critical condition at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. The 5-year-old boy, who was in his car seat, sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder and was rushed to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He is listed in stable condition.

Police have reported that a third person in the car returned fire and fled the scene. It is unknown if this individual sustained any injuries. Authorities believe that there were two shooters involved in the incident, as numerous shell casings were found along 61st Street and around the block.

So far, police have counted 49 rounds, which were fired from both a high-powered rifle and a handgun. While the motive for the shooting is still under investigation, authorities believe that some of the victims in the Nissan were specifically targeted by the gunmen.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident. The Philadelphia police are urging anyone with information to come forward and call 215-686-TIPS.
