A man has been arrested and charged with murder the shooting outside Oslo City Hall Monday afternoon. Task leader Erling Olstad told Dagbladet earlier Monday that the accused was found outside a car near the scene.
On Monday night, a witness tells Dagbladet that she was at work near the scene at Oslo City Hall, when she heard “a shot or two”.
– I thought “what the hell?”, Says the witness and adds:
– I looked out the window and saw him (the murder suspect, journ.anm.), But I did not see what he had in his hand. Then I picked up the phone and started filming him to be able to “zoom in”, and then I saw it was a gun. Then I stopped filming and called the police immediately, she says.
She does not want to be named, but in a video she filmed from the scene, the man accused of murder is seen aiming at a car, before hearing the weapon click.
The witness tells Dagbladet that she squatted down to hide from the person accused of murder when she realized what she was witnessing.
– There are lots of people on the outdoor terrace there. I thought, “What happens if he starts shooting random people?” She says, adding:
– I was very scared. You see that the lady who walks across the street starts running, she says.
– Many witnesses
Grete Lien Metlid, head of the Joint Unit for Intelligence and Investigation (FEE) in the Oslo police district, states that the police have many witnesses in the case. The case is being investigated as a murder case.
– We understand that it is very scary with shooting out in the public space in central Oslo so early in the evening. What we can say is that we have a relatively good overview so early. One person has been arrested, and the police arrived on the scene very quickly.
The police can not yet say anything about what happened before the shooting, she says.
– This is something we will work on throughout the evening. But there have been a number of people in the area, so we have many witnesses we have come in contact with, but there may still be people we have not spoken to, she says.
Metlid states that the police believe that there is a relationship between the deceased and the accused.
Know the accused
Both of those involved are adult men from Oslo. Metlid states that the accused himself called the police, and that the police know the person in question from before.
– We do not link this to any ongoing conflicts, or something that should be known to the police, but we do not yet know what has happened, she says.
Metlid states that the next of kin have been notified.
The emergency services were notified of a shooting in the city center at 17.44 on Monday afternoon. The injured were initially reported as seriously injured.
The Hellerud target is dead
Gonna talk tonight
The accused has been appointed the profiled lawyer Mette Yvonne Larsen as defense counsel.
Larsen informs Dagbladet that she has not been in contact with the accused yet, but states that she will talk to him tonight.
– I assume that there will be a police interrogation tomorrow or Wednesday. It depends on the situation, says Larsen.
She will not comment on whether the accused is known to her from before.
