According to NOVA, two shots were fired from a car that drove past the venue, breaking glass in one of the windows and the front door. As the assailant fired, the club’s lights were on. There were no people. At least eight shell casings were found inside the room. The case was picked up by the Ohrid police and prosecutor’s office.

This is another attack on a Bulgarian club in North Macedonia.

Our team met one of the founders of the club. For security reasons, we have hidden his name and his face. He says that even during the conversation it is dangerous to stay in the club. “Being Bulgarian in Ohrid or Macedonia is the hardest thing. You can easily be Afghan, Albanian, Kosovar, Serbian – whatever you want, but Bulgarian is a forbidden word,” the man says.

Position of the Farnesina of the RSM

Skopje’s Foreign Ministry called the incident an “act of vandalism”. Diplomats condemn the events and add that such attacks can endanger people’s lives.

The position of the Bulgarian MFA

The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry also came out with a position categorically condemning the “grave criminal act”. In connection with the case, the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of North Macedonia, Agneza Rusi-Popovska, was summoned today for a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She was handed a scathing note of protest.

The Consulate General of Bulgaria in Bitola has been informed of the incident. Consul General Dimitar Ivanov immediately visited Ohrid and established contacts with the members of the association and the competent institutions of the city involved in the case, explains the MFA.

“This criminal act is the third attack against the Tsar Boris III Club in less than two months. The previous attack was carried out just two days ago, for which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a note verbale to the North Macedonian embassy in Sofia “, the department continues.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs takes note of the reaction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia, but categorically does not accept such serious criminal acts to be defined as “vandalism”.

Comments

It was shot several times from a moving car, journalist Vlado Perev explained to NOVA. According to him, there are at least two perpetrators and they have not been arrested.

“This is an escalation of pressure against the Bulgarians in Macedonia and against Bulgaria itself. The goal is to refuse the Macedonian Bulgarians to enter the Constitution, change its position in Europe and speed up the negotiations for the entry of the RSM into the “EU, without any pretense. Hence the inaction of the police. No one can tell me that the police don’t know what’s going on,” Perev said.

“Absolutely a state-coordinated attack. The pressure being exerted against the Macedonian Bulgarians is coordinated by bodies close to the state. You have anti-Bulgarian statements from members of parliament. How not to say that it is coordinated? Does a person have to suffer for someone to be able to do their job both in Skopje and in Sofia?” commented the journalist.

President Stevo Pendarovski condemned the attack and called for a swift and thorough investigation to find the perpetrator.

RSM Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski said that due to their names, these clubs represent a provocation. “Even when these clubs were opening, I said that they could only be a provocation, because of the names they have been given, which arouse negative feelings in citizens, because they are associated with the most negative part of European history. I asked for the opening of cultural and information centers that bring people together”, stressed Pendarovski.
