ALPHEN AAN DEN RIJN – Several people witnessed the rain of bullets in the Prins Hendrikstraat in Alphen aan den Rijn on Thursday afternoon. 22-year-old Joy saw how the gunman targeted two homes with an automatic rifle. “He looked me straight in the eye.”
Around 5:30 p.m., a major alarm was raised in Alphen, where a man fired at least ten bullets at two homes. The shooter was dressed in black, wearing a hood and his face was also covered.
Joy witnessed the hail of bullets. “First he fired several rounds, then he stopped. Then the shooter looked me straight in the eye. Then he moved on and I fled into a store, and everything was locked. I was terrified.’

Earlier this week there was also a shooting in Alphen aan den Rijn, a few hundred meters away on Paradijslaan. Joy witnessed this too. ‘Yes, really bizarre.’
In that incident, police fired a shot after a suspect ran away. They were arrested in connection with an ongoing investigation, of which no further details have been shared.
Witnesses tell Omroep West, media partner of Studio Alphen, that the shooter fled towards Stationsstraat after the shooting. A black car is waiting there and leaves at high speed.

Just before 9 p.m., a police spokesperson said that two suspects had been arrested in Almere. A firearm was found in their vehicle. It is still unclear whether it is the automatic rifle seen in the photos.
No one was injured in the shooting. Ribbons have been hung around the homes that were shot and detectives are investigating. Witnesses are asked to report to the police.
