Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu held a telephone conversation with his British counterpart Ben Wallace today, in which the two discussed the situation in Ukraine, Russian news agencies reported, citing the Russian Defense Ministry, Reuters reported. .
Shoigu expressed to Wallace “his concerns, in relation to possible provocations by Ukraine to use a “dirty bomb” – something the Russian minister also said in phone calls with his French and Turkish counterparts earlier today. Russia has so far provided no evidence to support these claims, according to Reuters. During his conversation with Shoigu, British Defense Secretary Wallace dismissed claims by his Russian counterpart that Western countries were facilitating Kiev’s plan to escalate the conflict in Ukraine. “The Defense Minister rejected these claims and warned that such claims cannot be used as a pretext for further escalation.”the UK Defense Ministry said in a statement, BTA reported.
Later, Sergei Shoigu also spoke on the phone with his American counterpart Lloyd Austin, the second conversation between the two in three days, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement, cited by Reuters. Moscow did not provide further information on the results of the conversation or the specific topics that were discussed. The two ministers spoke earlier on Friday for the first time since May.
