Last season, he was the first Japanese player to win the award after Ichiro in 2004.
The Major League Players Association announced the winners of each title 4th (Japan time 5th) and Aaron Judge of the Yankees, who set a record 62 homers, was named the best defender of the American League. It was not the second consecutive year that Angels pitcher Shohei Ohtani won the award.
Ohtani was the first Japanese player to receive this award last year from Ichiro (then Mariners) in 2004, but he did not receive it this year.
This season, Ohtani is a pitcher with a 15-9 record and an earned average of 2.33. He threw 166 innings, becoming the first major league pitcher to reach the required innings and scoring 219 strikeouts, finishing third in the league. He averages 273 beats with 34 homers and 95 RBI. It was the first time since 1903, when the World Series began, to achieve the “double rule” of throwing and hitting.
