5 out of 9 agents say ‘more than $500 million’
The FA market is now dead, where big deals are being concluded one after another. When that happens, Angels pitcher Shohei Otani, who will be an FA in the upcoming offseason, will be in the spotlight. How big will the contract be? The New York Post interviewed nine agents. More than half of respondents said it would exceed $500 million (about 66.3 billion yen) for the first time in history.
The article, titled “Shohei Ohtani to Become First Half-Billion Dollar Man in MLB History This Winter,” asked nine reps (not counting Ohtani’s rep) for their opinions. Five out of nine people say “$500 million.” “For $500 million, maybe 12 year contract” “$500 million over 13-14 years = $250 million (about 33.1 billion yen) calculated for each position (pitcher and DH)” “475 million over 13 years $10,000 (about 62.9 billion yen) to $525 million (about 69.5 billion yen)” “50 million dollars (about 6.6 billion yen) x 11 years.” was heard.
The other four are also “definitely more than Trout ($426.5 million in 2012 = about 56.5 billion yen), Trout is the starting line.” “should be” “contract for $430 million (about 57 billion yen) to $440 million (about 58.3 billion yen)” “10-year contract for $45 million (about 59.6 billion yen) all ‘year” and $400 million I’m giving more than that amount.
As for Ohtani, who has a $30 million contract next season, the article said, “A real big deal is coming next winter when the two-way superstar enters the free agency market. He’s about to hit the mark You should get what you deserve,” he said. What kind of contract will it be? From now on the expectations will grow.
