In Lille news, we usually share good news with you when it comes to thebusiness news. But it sometimes happens that some closures score more than others. This is the case for these three: a shoe shop in Lilleand tea room and zero-waste grocery store in Roubaix.

A shoe store

It is, without exaggerating, an institution in Lille: the shoe shop Release, place du Lion d’Or. For many, it was an obligatory stop during shopping sprees. But now, after 35 years of providing Lille women with boots, ankle boots and other derbies, the boss Olivier is bowing out.

The announcement was made this Monday, February 13, 2023, on the store’s social networks. A simple message as a farewell to loyal customers.

Until this announcement, the store was in destocking, with -70% on the entire collection. If these very significant discounts pleased the customers, it was also a sign of declining activity.

A Scandinavian tea room

In Roubaix, it’s a tea room that we saw born, and for which we loved to tell the story of its founder, who will lower the curtain. Diane Lepoutre had opened Freyja Nerdic Café in December 2019, on the Grand-Place, opposite the Town Hall. But a little over three years after the inauguration, the Covid crisis, which has damaged all businesses in France, has been there. It has since been replaced by inflation, a real coup de grace for certain weakened treasuries.

Diane therefore had to make a very painful decision. “Today, I would have to overinvest for this new storm of inflation, but by dint of persevering too much, I’m slipping into stubbornness, and that’s not healthy. »

The young woman announced that she would close the doors of her tea room on Saturday February 25 at 6 p.m. So you still have a few days left to come and see it, and treat yourself to the sweets of Scandinavia.

A bulk grocery store

Last sad announcement, that of the closure of the bulk grocery store Un grain dans le bocal, located boulevard de Fourmies in Roubaix. It’s been almost 6 years since Roubaisians, aware of 0 waste, came to fill their jars. Unfortunately, the adventure is coming to an end.

Here again, the economic context is one of the explanations for this closure. But also “the desire to project oneself towards new projects”. “It is not without sadness that we share this news with you, but it must be said it is also a relief. The activity became a source of stress and it is not in the habits of the grain to let a situation get bogged down, ”explained the managers on their Facebook page.

There are a few days left to shop in this small business, currently closed to do a final inventory. The grocery store will reopen on February 21 “for another 2 or 3 weeks” with destocked prices.
