LAS VEGAS – A shocking video showing the fatal and allegedly intentional run-over of a cyclist, which occurred in August in Nevada, went viral on social media this weekend.
Due to this same video, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police (LVMPD) investigation, which had initially been approached as a hit and run, was transferred to the Homicide Section.
The incident occurred on August 14 in the area of Tenaya Way and Centennial Parkway, around 6:04 am
The fatal victim was a man, a former California police officer, who was taken to the Traumatology Unit of the University Medical Center (UMC) and declared deceased shortly after.
LVMPD captured the alleged driver of the vehicle involved, a 17-year-old boy, who allegedly tried to flee the scene after the collision.
“On August 29, 2023, detectives became aware of a video on social media showing the incident, and after viewing the video, they determined that this was an intentional act. Homicide detectives took over the investigation and will modify the minor’s charges to include murder,” reads the police report published on September 1.
