Shocking Testimony: Tennis Coach Andrew Geddes Sentenced for Rape of Young Girls

He is already behind bars, yet more concrete evidence is coming to light confirming the monstrosity of tennis coach Andrew Geddes. He was sentenced to eighteen years in prison in France in January 2021 for the rape of four girls, his wards.

She bravely sat down in the hall at the Palais Bourbon in front of the National Assembly and began to tell. Her detailed description of what she had to go through shocked the whole of France.

When promising tennis player Angelique Cauchy was twelve years old, she met coach Geddes at a club in the north of Paris. The year was 1999 and since then her life has never been the same.

Cauchy testified that the 55-year-old coach raped her more than 400 times over two years.

“It happened for the first time after two or three months. I told him not to do it, that I don’t want it and it’s not right. He replied that sometimes it happens in the relationship between a coach and a player, they spend a lot of time together, that’s how it is that’s normal,” the now thirty-six-year-old woman described in mid-September.

She described being at a training camp in La Baule on the west coast of France as the worst two weeks of her life.

“Many times there I thought about suicide, I was like in prison. He raped me three times a day. The first night he asked me to come to his room, when I didn’t, he came to me alone,” said Cauchy during her heart-rending testimony before the special investigative commission , which the French established this July. Its aim is to identify shortcomings within sports federations, movements and sports governing bodies.

According to Cauchy, only thirteen steps separated her and the coach’s room. In her testimony, she called them “thirteen steps of horror”.

She also described how the coach told her he was HIV positive. From the age of thirteen to eighteen, the young girl lived in fear of having AIDS.

The special investigation in France continues mainly because Geddes’ behavior could have been prevented very easily. His problematic behavior towards young girls was widely known.

“When a woman complained to the president of the club about inappropriate behavior towards young girls, including verbal and physical violence, his answer was: Yes, but it brings us titles,” testified Cauchyová, today a gym teacher and tennis coach.
