Harry Maguire was arrested on the Greek island of Mykonos for a fight in a bar with other English tourists. Officers were supposed to get the 27-year-old defender from the bus, but he resisted. After returning to the country, the Englishman was sentenced to 21 months suspended prison, but he announced an appeal against the sentence. In an interview with “BBC” the footballer told about the details of the detention.
– They hit my legs hard. I did not want that. I panicked, I was afraid for my life, he said Harry Maguire – I know what happened that night. I know the truth. When I talk about it, I get nervous, but that’s because I’m angry inside. I will move forward. I am mentally strong enough – he added.

Representative England spent two days in custody. After returning home, Harry Maguire maintains his opinion of his innocence. The defense attorney mentioned that the decision of the sentence was the worst moment for him, therefore he announced an appeal against the decision.

Harry Maguire joined Manchesteru United in August 2019 for EUR 87 million. The 27-year-old Englishman is currently the most expensive defender in the world. The footballer’s lawyers appealed the sentence on August 26. Due to this situation, the defender was suspended and will not play for England during September’s League of Nations matches with Iceland and Denmark.
