Shocking Statistics: One-Third of Bone Cancer Cases Initially Misdiagnosed

Experts warn that Britons are slow to recognize the disease in its early stages, and doctors often ignore the symptoms as minor health problems.

But there are some warning signs to look for to give you the best chance of treatment before the disease spreads.

According to the Bone Cancer Research Trust (BCRT), the five most common symptoms include:

-Continuous or intermittent bone pain, which often gets worse at night.

-The appearance of a mass, swelling, or inflammation over the bone.

-Movement problems, such as joint stiffness or reduced mobility.

-Limping or inability to move.

– Bruising occurs easily.

The report added that some patients may suffer from fatigue, sweating, fever, weight loss, loss of muscle strength, and bone fractures.

About 560 people are diagnosed with bone cancer each year in the UK – about a third are children and teenagers.

A study conducted by BCRT revealed that 76% of cases are initially misdiagnosed, and it takes an average of eight visits to healthcare professionals before a proper diagnosis is made.

Doctors explained that the symptoms are often confused with growing pains, sports injuries, arthritis, tendonitis, and muscle strain.
