A double increase in pre-trial proceedings is reported by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Burgas, and according to the institution, this is due to changes in the legislation. Before the changes, legal proceedings could only be initiated after 3 reports of domestic violence had been filed.
“For bodily injury caused in the conditions of domestic violence for 2024. 142 pre-trial proceedings were initiated, and for the first 10 months of 2023 – 107 pre-trial proceedings, compared to 375 for the same period of the current year. Until October 31, 2024 the total number of detainees is 418 people, as for the same period in 2023. a total of 146 people were detained. For the whole of 2023 there are 183 cases”, commented the head of the “Security Police”, MIA – Burgas ch. Commissioner Marin Dimitrov.
