Scandalous actions that remained secret for a long time. In the United States, a former gynecologist is being sued by one of his patients, whom he had treated around thirty years ago for a fertility problem. The complainant accuses the practitioner of having lied to her about the origin of the sperm used for her artificial insemination and of having used his own semen without informing the principal concerned.
Her daughter discovers that 16 strangers have DNA identical to hers
As indicated USA Today, the patient in question, who resides in the state of Idaho, discovered the unthinkable truth by chance, more than three decades after the fact. Suffering from chronic health problems, his 33-year-old daughter was indeed invited by her doctors to carry out a DNA test in order to look for possible hereditary conditions.
The results of the test, however, revealed a completely unexpected element: contrary to what was recorded in her medical file, the biological father of this young woman born following artificial insemination was in fact the gynecologist who had performed the procedure. ! The thirty-year-old also learned that she shared this DNA with 16 residents of Washington state, where the doctor had practiced for many years until his retirement.
He suggested that she choose a donor who looked like her husband
The young woman’s mother then understood that she had been manipulated and deceived by this gynecologist. At the time, the latter had prescribed a medical protocol that could allow her to become pregnant, despite her fertility problems. During the process, he offered the young woman several potential anonymous donors, assuring her that he had selected profiles “who physically resembled her husband”.
The doctor then performed several artificial inseminations on the patient, who paid $100 in cash for each procedure. The young woman eventually became pregnant and then had an uncomplicated pregnancy. The gynecologist, however, was careful not to specify that he had used his own sperm to impregnate his patient! Judging by the results of his daughter’s DNA test, thirty years later, the latter was not the only victim of the particularly indelicate actions of the gynecologist.

Upcoming trial
Although USA Today specifies that no law in force in the state of Washington “prohibits doctors from secretly using their own sperm to artificially inseminate a patient”, the patient still filed a complaint for medical malpractice. According to the mother’s lawyers, the practitioner violated the provision of law “which requires that doctors obtain informed consent from patients before treating them.”
Still according to the American media, the gynecologist’s wife has also filed a civil suit in this case. Evoking significant psychological after-effects following the revelation of the truth, the plaintiffs hope to obtain damages at the end of a trial which is currently being investigated.
