A video of a dead man lying in the toilet of a crowded emergency room at a hospital in Naples is causing quite a stir in Italy. The images show the man lying on the floor of the toilet, while several patients lie close together in the room, apparently without any nursing staff around.

The video was recorded by a 30-year-old patient who criticized the situation in the hospital. Both the director and the governor of Naples region say the video has been taken out of context and nurses were already on the way to help the man. “Such a situation could occur in any hospital around the world,” said the governor.
Naples was in the news last week with the overcrowded hospitals as a result of the large numbers of infections with the corona virus. Italy seemed on the right track for a long time, but recently the figures have been rising sharply. Doctors fear that there are not enough beds in intensive care to care for the people and that a scenario like the one in March is heading for them.
