A minute of footage showing piglets slammed to the ground to be slaughtered and castrated “lively” according to L214 which unveils a new shocking investigation this Wednesday, October 4. Of the images that were shot this year, between May and September, at the GAEC Les Grandes Vignes breeding farm, in Corbeil, in the south of the Marne, ensures the animal rights association.

In this Marne breeding which has approximately 4,000 animalsliving conditions are unhealthy. “These are practices that are completely illegal”protests Sébastien Arsac, co-founder of L214, director of the investigation department. “Live castration without painkillers has been banned since January 2022. Routine docking of tails has been banned since 2003. And we see that in this farm, all the pigs, at all ages, have their tails docked, so it is done systematically.”
Complaint for serious abuse
Concerning the breakdown, “the killing of animals by percussion on the ground could be authorized for animals which are not viable. However, here this is not the case, these are comfort slaughters for a question of economic profitability, which is totally prohibited”continues the activist. His association filed a complaint this Wednesday with the public prosecutor of Châlons-en-Champagne for serious abuse and mistreatment of animals. A complaint that “will be studied”the prosecution confirmed to us.
L214 filed a complaint against this breeding located in Corbeil in the south of the department.
“Very shocking images”
This farm, whose manager we were unable to contact, depends on the Cirhyo cooperative, one of the French leaders in the pork market. He supplies both artisan butchers and the well-known Herta brand. “Very shocking images”recognizes Cirhyo’s quality and communications manager, Fanny Dumet, but “partial, in the service of the association’s desire to abolish breeding”. According to her, it is up to the veterinary services of the Departmental Directorate for Population Protection (DDPP) to say whether or not the breeder is respecting the law.
An inspection was ordered by the prefect of Marne “to verify the operating conditions provided for by the regulations in force for this type of breeding”, tells us the prefecture. And specifies that in the event of non-compliance, “administrative and/or criminal action will be taken”.
For his part, L214 appeals directly to the Minister of AgricultureMarc Fesneau, so that it prohibits the beating of piglets and any form of castration.
