In a shocking turn of events, Congressman Lee Zeldin was allegedly assaulted during a campaign speech.

A man allegedly walked onto the stage, started screaming and then “wrestled with him a bit and pulled out a blade,” witnesses told Pix11.

Michael Henry, who is running for Attorney General for New York State, responded to this event with a tweet:

“Violent crime is everywhere in our state and we will continue to fight to restore safety in New York,” he said.

Zeldin, a Republican candidate for governor of New York State, delivered a speech in Perinton on Thursday.

The talk was about bail reform at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Center.

AMVETS national director Joe Chenelly was eventually able to stop the alleged attacker.

According to another witness account, Zeldin was not injured and eventually returned to the stage.

Monroe County Police responded to the incident.
