Shock Break: Car Crashes into Watchmaker’s Shop and Steals Valuable Watches

The police received a report of a shock break from witnesses at 07.43 on Saturday morning.

A car drove into the front door of a watchmaker’s and optician’s shop in the center of Brumunddal.

– It’s boring. I should actually have been at work and received customers, says general manager of the store, Stein Stønes to NRK.

He thought it was a false alarm at first when the alarm went off.

He does not know how many watches have been taken.

Several watches are said to have been stolen from the business.

Used stolen car – found it full of powder

– Two people were observed to have entered and stolen watches of considerable value, before the perpetrators left the scene in the car, said operations manager at Innlandet police district Stig Folstad Hansen on Saturday morning.

The perpetrators used an older, white Volkswagen Golf, which was stolen from a private address in Hamar during Friday evening or Saturday night.

The car was found in Veldre outside Brumunddal at 12.50 on Saturday morning following a tip from the public.

The perpetrators are said to have used this car in the shock break. It was found in Veldre on Saturday afternoon.

– The car doesn’t look like it. It appears that the perpetrators have filled the car with powder from a fire extinguisher, probably to cover their tracks, says operations manager Folstad Hansen.

– We don’t know where the journey has progressed, he says.

The police have crime scene technicians on the scene and are working to find clues. They also want tips from people who may have seen the car before or after the breakdown.

– We are working widely to find out who this is, says Folstad Hansen.

Opens again on Monday

General manager Stønes says the door was completely destroyed and he has used the time to set up a new temporary door.

– Now I have been carpentry ever since the police left here, he says at 5.45pm.

There is extensive damage to the entrance area, and some damage inside the shop, the police say.

The last time Stønes experienced something similar was in 1997. Then someone allegedly smashed the window and stole what was in the display window.

The theft was not solved.

He says he will open the shop again on Monday.

– Unfortunately, it was closed today, and there will be a slightly reduced range of products.

The “shock break” happened in the center of Brumunddal in Ringsaker in Inlandet on Saturday morning.
