Already on Wednesday, September 22, the new year of the second highest Slovak hockey competition will start with six matches, which will bear the name TIPOS Slovenská hokejová liga (SHL) in the 2021/2022 season. The list of its participants has been expanded to twelve, and a representative selection of the Slovak Republic under the age of 18 will again be a part of it.
The project of centralized preparation of the Slovak national team under the age of 18 is a traditional, although non-competitive part of SHL. Before the official start of the season, “Eighteen” played two inserted matches (with Humenný 1: 5 and Trnava 3:10).
“The main goal of the national team under 18 remains the domestic world championships. Another important goal is the project of centralized preparation of SR 18 focused on the development of young talented players. The key is to combine education and sport, ” said coach SR 18 at Monday’s press conference Ivan Feneš.
The second highest competition will consist in the basic part of 46 rounds, in which the teams will meet each other twice at home and twice outside, plus two more meetings (once at home and once outside) with SR 18. If the pandemic situation does not disrupt its course, the basic part will end on February 18.
“I firmly believe that everything will go according to plan. Regarding the promotion to the extra league and SHL, VV SZĽH recently decided to decide in the playoffs. Thus, the winner of SHL will meet the 12th team of the extra league for four winning matches, similarly, a draw will be played between the winner of II. League and the 12th SHL Team, “ said a member of the SHL League Council Rastislav Konečný.
As he further informed, the number of foreign players was reduced from five to four. For the second year in a row, only Slovak goalkeepers can compete in SHL: “On Monday, there will be a vote on how it will be with the number of legionnaires in the barracks and other details. I think it is necessary to approach this in such a way that the SHL representative has a slight advantage over the extra-league representative. “
Important message for SHL
TIPOS became the new general partner of the second highest competition, and the JOJ Šport television station became the media partner. “This is important news for SHL,” declared the president of SZĽH Miroslav Satan.

“When I came to work in Slovak hockey four years ago, I perceived SHL as an article that needed help. At the time, she had little money to grow. Our goal was to create a young dynamic league that will give space to younger players. In the first two years, SZĽH took on the role of general sponsor and supported SHL in various ways, e.g. financial bonuses.
After two years of minimal support for development, we were intensively looking for someone who would significantly help the clubs from the financial point of view. I believe that the two new partners will help the league to reach the required level and become a storehouse and hatchery for young players, whom we will see later in the extra league, foreign competitions and some in the national team. “
Both partners agreed with the SZĽH on long-term cooperation. “We have agreed on a period of five years. The contract is for three years, plus it includes a unilateral option for another two, ” informed Marek Kaňka, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of TIPOS.

There are many young players in it, who often fight their way to the top league thanks to their performance. Our aim is to support young successful talents as well, and the support of SHL provides us with an ideal space for this. ”
JOJ Sport will start broadcasting soon, thanks to which SHL will get on TV screens. “Television is being created as a channel that will primarily focus on Slovak sports. Hockey is a main topic for us, we want to focus on hockey conceptually. We have signed a long-term contract with SZĽH, within which we will intensively support a centralized project of training players under 18, the Slovak Hockey League and the Slovak Cup.
We broadcast one to two matches from each SHL league round. We feel the potential in the promotion of young players and athletes, who may in the future be a building block of the Slovak national team at the World Championships, “ said the director of JOJ Šport television on the margo of the partnership with SZĽH Roman Neuschl.
