Shkolo Co-founder Reassures Public: Sale to Juniper Education Does Not Endanger Student Data

The co-founder of “Shkolo” Miroslav Jokanov reassured that the sale of the platform to the British company “Juniper Education” does not endanger the personal data of students and teachers. The clarification was prompted by concerns that the deal would provide a foreign company with sensitive information from the Bulgarian education system.

Here is what Miroslav Jokanov wrote:

1. Is the data sold?- Data from the logs (grades, absences, etc.) are NOT owned by the School. Accordingly, they are NOT subject to sale. The owner of this data is the schools. A school is only a processing body.

2. Do the English have access to this data?- Only employees of Shkolo OOD have access to the data.

3. Are the British interested in the data in question? – The British company has NO interest in the administrative data of the Bulgarian students. Juniper buys the Bulgarian product in order to integrate it in England. I repeat – no one in England is excited about Ivancho’s triples.

The director of the 119th school in Sofia and municipal councilor from GERB Diyan Stamatov was among the commenters:

“A successful Bulgarian product, recognized by principals, teachers, students and parents throughout the country, continues its development, but in foreign hands. What makes it necessary to sell “School” to a foreign company? Was the product of “School” rated at the Bulgarian market? What will be the consequences for Bulgarian education of the transition of “School” to the English market? I think that everyone can answer these questions, and also raise their own”, wrote Stamatov and pointed out that if the electronic diary , who created “Shkolo”, completely leaves the Bulgarian market, the best alternative to replace it will be the “painfully familiar paper diaries”.
