Shivratri Celebrations at Periyar River Draw Thousands: Tarpanam Ceremonies Continue

Aluva: On the occasion of Shivratri, lakhs of devotees took a dip in Periyar and performed sacrifices. An unofficial estimate is that on both banks of the Periyar, around 10 lakh people have come to offer their father’s sacrifice.

The tarpana ceremonies started at 10 pm on Friday and continued till yesterday afternoon. Devotees came to Tarpanam even late yesterday as the black day of Kumbh month was from 6.30 pm yesterday to 2.30 pm today. Tarpana facilities will continue at Manappuram and Advaita Ashram as it is possible to reach devotees even today.

Balitharpanam was held at Manappuram under the leadership of Travancore Devaswom Board and at Advaita Ashram in Marukara under the leadership of Sree Narayana Dharma Sangham Trust. There were more than a hundred altars on Manappuram.

Special Pujas were held at Manappuram Mahadeva Temple. Devaswom Board Member G. Sundaresan was there all the time to coordinate the activities.

At the Advaita Ashram, 2000 people were given tarpana facilities at a time. Ashram Secretary Swami Dharmachaitanya led by Swami Narayanarishi, P.K. Jayanthan Shanti presided over the ceremony. Volunteers of SNDP Yuga Aluva Union, Gurudharma Pracharana Sabha and Sree Narayana Club were all present at Advaita Ashram for service.
