Shivalinge Gowda, an MLA of the Janata Dal (Secular) (JD(S)) party in Karnataka, has resigned from his post ahead of the state’s assembly elections. Gowda is expected to join the Indian National Congress party. This follows the resignation of another JD(S) MLA, A.T. Ramaswamy, who has stated his intention to stand for the Bharatiya Janata Party in Arkalgud. Gowda’s resignation is significant as he represents a constituency in the Hassan district, a JD(S) stronghold. The elections in Karnataka are scheduled to take place on May 12.
