Shiv Sena returns to strike in Maharashtra; Arrow, bow, symbol and name are frozen by EC Election Commission freezes Shiv Sena’s bow and arrow symbol for Thackeray faction and Shinde camp

Mumbai: Central Election Commission banned the use of Shiv Sena’s bow, arrow, symbol and name in Maharashtra. The Uddhav faction and the Shinde faction cannot use the Shiv Sena symbol and name until further notice. Ahead of the Andheri East elections, both parties had claimed the party’s symbol. Action by the Commission follows.

In its order, the commission said that both parties should propose three new names and three symbols by 1pm on October 10 and after verifying, the appropriate name and symbol will be assigned to both.

Faction spokesman Shinde Naresh Maske said they want the bow and arrow symbol and will consult legal experts for it. Shiv Sena MP Anil Desai replied that the commission’s order was unexpected and unthinkable.

Shinde had previously asked the Electoral Commission to grant him the Shiv Sena symbol of arrows and bows. Then the commission asked Uddhav for his answer. Uddhav had told the Electoral Commission on Friday that the Shinde side had left the party voluntarily and could not claim the party symbol.
