During the inspection, two samples were taken from the pavement of the site. During the initial inspection of one nut, the minister stated that a third of the asphalt laid in the project, which should be 20 centimeters, is missing. “What you see right now is 14 centimeters, part of the road is missing,” added the minister, who showed the so-called nut to the media.
A sample will also be taken from one of the bridge structures in the area of the road section, and the strength of its steel structure will also be examined.
Ivan Shishkov: The first part of “Hemus” – less asphalt, more slag
According to the minister, this section will need major repairs, and at a much earlier stage, which will be at the expense of the state. The tangent is out of warranty and the bridge gear is still under warranty.
The analyzes will be done by the Research Construction Institute and the Institute for Roads and Bridges of the Road Infrastructure Agency and are expected to be ready within two weeks.
The construction of the 17-kilometer highway section was for BGN 220 million under the Operational Program “Regional Development” 2007-2013, the Road Infrastructure Agency explained. On December 30, 2015, the Prime Minister at the time – Boyko Borisov, put into operation 13 kilometers of the Northern Express Tangent, and on April 28, 2016, the entire highway section was put into operation two months ahead of schedule.
