Shipwreck in Sicily: 4 Bayesian passengers died of “dry drowning” – They had no water in their lungs (Video) – 2024-09-06 13:51:07

Four of the seven victims killed in the Bayesian wreck were trapped, unconscious, in cabins when the vessel sank off the coast of Sicily last month.

Attorney Chris Morvillo, his wife Neda, Morgan Stanley Bank International chairman Jonathan Blumer and his wife Judy all died of “dry suffocation,” according to reports.

None of the four had water in their lungs, indicating that they did not drown in seawater after the ship sank. They died of suffocation when the cabin ran out of oxygen and the atmosphere became toxic with carbon dioxide.

Their forensic examination showed “dry drowning”, that is, they consumed all the oxygen that was left while the boat was sinking.

Medical examiners determined that the four victims died of suffocation when the cabin ran out of oxygen and the atmosphere became toxic with carbon dioxide.

The bodies of Morvillo and Bloomer and yacht owner Mike Lynch were found inside the same stateroom on the port side of the $40 million yacht.

The body of Lynch’s 18-year-old daughter Hannah was discovered in the next room, also on the port side of the yacht.

The ship sank to the bottom of the ocean and sat tilted on its starboard side – meaning the victims were likely awake as they headed into cabins that had recently filled with water, hoping to find air pockets.

But the air pockets quickly became toxic as the victims breathed in the last of its oxygen and exhaled carbon dioxide.

Lynch’s wife and Hannah’s mother, Angela Bacares — who survived the wreck — reportedly tried to warn those below deck, but was injured when she stepped on broken glass and was unable to reach the cabins as they quickly filled with water, the local media reported.

Bacares was among the 15 passengers and crew members of the boat who survived.

One crew member, the ship’s cook, Recaldo Thomas, was also killed. His body was found floating next to the sunken vessel.

Additional tests are needed to confirm that the four victims died of “dry suffocation”, la Repubblica reported.
