Shipping on the Maas resumed after collision between two cargo ships

Shipping on the Meuse near Beesel has resumed from 8 a.m. under the supervision of Rijkswaterstaat. A patrol boat is on site to guide and warn ships.

Two cargo ships collided last night between Kessel and Beesel. It involved a collision between a tanker, loaded with 360 tons of sulfuric acid, and a freighter, with wire steel on board. According to Rijkswaterstaat, there were no leaks, but both ships were damaged.

No one was injured in the accident. A ferry is also out of service due to the collision.

sail on

The cargo ship carrying sulfuric acid has since left the collision site. The cargo was pumped over last night.

The ship with wire steel is attached to a ferry with a chain. In the course of the morning, it will be examined whether the ship may also be attached to the cables of the ferry. If that is not the case, the cargo ship will be pulled free, repaired if necessary and can continue sailing on its own.

Rijkswaterstaat hopes that the ferry will be able to sail again later in the day, but that depends on whether it is damaged.
The cause of the collision is unknown, reports L1.
