Ship creates water after collision at IJmuiden coast, passengers rescued | Inland

The rudderless ship Julietta D is floating in the Hollandse Kust Zuid wind farm, the Netherlands Coastguard writes. The ship is still drifting at more than three knots, the Rescue Service reports. With the current course and speed, she should arrive at the coast at about 6 p.m., the service writes on Twitter.

Of course, a salvage plan is also being considered: “With a helicopter, salvage companies could be put on the ship in order to eventually make a towage connection,” according to the Rescue Service. In addition, it is reported that there is a hole in the hull of the ship: “The water flows in and out there. The ship is still straight. It appears that the ship is not sinking any further at this point.”

Emergency services turned out

To rescue the people on board the boat, two lifeboats have set out to provide assistance. The Coast Guard reported that two helicopters have also been sent to the spot where the ship is making water. A third rescue helicopter came over from Belgium. The rescue operation of the personnel was hampered by the high waves caused by storm Corrie. Waves up to six meters high occur in the area.

The Coast Guard was not yet able to say anything about what exactly happened.

The ship was en route from Germany to Amsterdam and sails under the Maltese flag. The location of the collision is about 32 kilometers west of IJmuiden, the Rescue Service reports. The ship is said to have collided with another ship, the Pechora Star. The condition on the Pechora Star is ‘stable’, according to the Coast Guard.
