Shiny Shoe, the developer of Monster Train, has announced that Early Access title Inkbound will soon undergo a rather significant change. The title will drop in-game monetization, all in an effort to follow the trend in the industry and among players.
As can be seen from a Steam blog post, we learn that Leveling Passes will be removed, and content from previous Leveling Passes will be turned into optional cosmetic DLC packs sold on Steam. In addition, the in-game currency Shinies is changed to Vault Dust, which can now only be earned by playing the game and used to purchase cosmetic items.
Players who have previously purchased Shinies will also be rewarded with double the amount of Vault Dust regardless of whether they have used Shinies or not. Finally, to ensure players get a decent selection of cosmetic items, chests will occasionally appear after defeating a Guardian that will give you a random cosmetic reward that you don’t already have.
All of these changes will take effect from October 27, 2023, when the next major update of Inkbound arrives. The game is scheduled to leave Early Access sometime next year.
