Japan’s ruling coalition, formed by the LDP and its partner Komeito, won a total of 215 seats, preventing it from reaching a majority in the general election for the first time in 15 years and creating political uncertainty in an economy already facing a series of challenges.
It is natural for the electoral chief to take responsibility for the election results, Koizumi said, quoted by NHK, while addressing the media at the party headquarters.
The resignation was accepted by Ishiba, NHK reported.
Shinjiro Koizumi, son of former Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, acknowledged that the party must adapt in response to voters’ opinion that “the LDP must change,” and attributed the electoral defeat to the current problems related to the scandal. of political financing.
Despite his previous candidacy for party presidency, Koizumi was appointed electoral chief under Ishiba’s leadership following the establishment of the new Administration.
