Attention to shingles
You’ve probably heard about shingles, but what kind of disease is it and how do you recognize it? Shingles is a serious disease according to the Dutch Health Council. That is why during the week of February 27 to March 5, 2023, attention is drawn to the symptoms of shingles and the impact that shingles can have on someone’s life.
Shingles – what’s your story?
One in four people suffers from shingles. As you get older, your immune system also ages. This makes you more likely to get shingles. The virus that causes shingles, the chickenpox virus, can suddenly become active again. Anyone who has ever had chickenpox can get it. Shingles often go away on its own. Still, shingles can be very painful and sometimes last longer due to nerve pain. This pain can last for months or in some cases years in the form of burning pain or tingling, hypersensitivity to touch, heat or cold.
