Stefano Lilipaly was again ignored by Shin Tae Yong. The name of this Borneo FC player is not included in the player list Indonesian National team in 2026 World Cup Qualification.
On November 16, the Indonesian national team will clash with Iraq at the Basra International Stadium and five days later, November 21, they will face the Philippines at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
This is quite surprising because Lilipaly is burning. This Dutch player appeared very fierce in Liga 1 2023. So far Lilipaly has collected nine goals and six assists.
This season, Lilipaly has won the League 1 Man of the Match title twice, namely in July and September. He also has the potential to win a similar title again because of his performance last month.
During October Lilipaly appeared four times to defend Borneo. He collected four goals and one assist. From those four matches, this 33 year old man was Man of the Match twice.
However, these statistics did not impress Shin. Lilipaly was last called up to the Indonesian national team during the trial against Turkmenistan. At that time Lilipaly contributed one assist.
Against Brunei Darussalam in the first phase of the 2026 World Cup Qualification, Lilipaly was dropped. The reason Shin didn’t call Lilipaly was because her playing style didn’t match the philosophy applied.
This is like the story of Ilija Spasojevic in 2022. Last season Spasojevic was Indonesia’s most fertile player in League 1. Even though he was sharp with the club, Spasojevic’s performance was not satisfactory with the national team.
Apart from not calling Lilipaly, Shin also ignored Marselino Ferdinand and Ivar Jenner. The two players who played in Europe were not called up because they were recovering from injuries.
Instead, Shin called Adam Alis. This Borneo FC player was last called up against Turkmenistan. This season, Adam’s performance is relatively stable in Liga 1 2023/2024.
At the same time Shin even called Yakob Sayuri. This is surprising because this PSM player has not yet recovered 100 percent from his injury. In fact, Yakob has not appeared in the League since August 28 2023.
Players like Egy Maulana Vikri, whose performance has declined with Dewa United, are also still called up. Shin seemed to be deliberately playing with fire for the tight 2026 World Cup Qualification match.
