Shin Tae Yong wants Indonesian players to sacrifice themselves against Thailand

Trainer Shin Ta Yong (STY) asked the cast Indonesian national team made a sacrifice against defending champion Thailand, Thursday (29/12) at Bung Karno Stadium (GBK), Jakarta, in Group A preliminary match of AFF Cup 2022.

He considered that mental preparation to fight Thailand is very important for the children under his care. In Group A, Thailand won two matches against Brunei Darussalam by the score of 5-0 and beat the Philippines by the score of 4-0.

“I also think the same, in fact this match is very important, the players also feel the same way. I will make it clear that (the players) can enjoy the game and make sacrifices,” Shin Tae Yong said at a press conference earlier of the match against Thailand at GBK Stadium, Jakarta on Wednesday (28/12).

The Indonesian national team itself often shadows Thailand in the AFF Cup. In the 2020 AFF Cup Final, Team Garuda lost 2-6 on aggregate to Teerasil Dangda and friends.

In the previous two Group A matches of the 2022 AFF Cup, the Indonesia national team won 2-1 over Cambodia and 7-0 over Brunei. However, Shin Tae Yong asked Egy Maulana Vikri and his friends to play better in the two games.

“I stress to the players to be more focused and show a better game than before,” said the coach with the South Korean passport.

Thailand and the Indonesian national team both have six points from the two games they’ve passed. Thailand has the right to lead the table in Group A because they have a better goal difference.

However, the position of the Indonesian national team is also fair. The victory over Thailand will qualify the Indonesian national team for the semi-finals of the 2022 AFF Cup.
