Indonesia U-23 National Team Coach Shin Tae-yong mention Vietnam is a team with good ability, but did not make the squad flinch. Why?
Indonesian National Team U-23 will face Vietnam in the inaugural match of Group A in SEA Games 2021 at Viet Tri Stadium, Phu Tho, Friday (6/5/2022). This match is predicted to be tight and interesting.
Because, besides being the host, Vietnam is also the defending champion in this event. However, Shin Tae-yong said the U-23 Indonesian national team was also in top performance and ready to fight against Vietnam.
“Since I’ve coached Indonesia, I’ve faced Vietnam twice. In terms of skills, Vietnam is a good team, especially since I have a senior who coaches (Park Hang-seo), but our performance is getting higher and added (the presence of) players playing abroad ,” said Shin on the PSSI official website.
There are at least three Indonesian players abroad who are ready to appear, namely Egy Maulana Fikri (FK Senica), Witan Sulaeman (FK Senica), and Saddil Ramdani (Sabah FC). Actually there are still Elkan Baggott (Ipswich Town) and Asnawi Mangkualam (Ansan Greeners), but both of them will still be absent against Vietnam because they have not joined.
Shin Tae-yong then hopes that his players can bring out their best abilities during the Golden Star Warriors.
“The players are in good condition and ready to work hard against Vietnam. We hope that the players will focus, be disciplined and fight optimally to win,” he said.
Indonesia itself last faced Vietnam in the 2020 AFF Cup which took place at the end of last year. At that time, Indonesia and Vietnam drew 0-0.
Meanwhile, at the 2019 SEA Games, Indonesia has lost twice to Vietnam. First, during the preliminary round of Group B, Indonesia lost 1-2 to Vietnam. Then Garuda Muda again lost 0-3 in the final match.
