Elkan Baggott will be released at AFF Cup 2022 if the Indonesian national team qualifies for the semi-finals. Garuda Trainer Shin Tae-yong understand the attitude of the tall defender club.
Previously Shin Tae-yong took the time to come to England to negotiate with the Elkan Baggott club. Currently, Elkan Baggott is on loan to Gillingham from Ipswich Town.
But Shin Tae-yong’s efforts to go to England seem to be fruitless. The club is reluctant to let its players go outside FIFA’s agenda as they are still busy with domestic competitions in England.
“I went to England and met Elkan Baggott. There is indeed an agreement with the club. So, Elkan Baggott has not yet received permission to play for the Indonesian national team in the preliminary round,” said Shin Tae-yong, in a statement. issued by PSSI.
Elkan Baggott will surely be absent when the Indonesian national team play the group stage. Garuda made Group A with Thailand, the Philippines, Cambodia and Brunei.
The group stage of the AFF Cup will revert to using a home-away format with a single round-robin system. In this way each team will play two games at home and two away.
The Indonesian national team will host Cambodia in their opening match on December 20, then host Brunei on December 26. Then the third match is against Thailand on December 29 and the last one is visiting Philippines HQ on January 2, 2023.
For the home match of the Indonesia national team, PSSI He will reportedly choose Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK) in Jakarta. The federation is also currently formulating a stadium attendance scheme for Indonesia national team matches in the AFF Cup.
Only the group winners and runners-up will advance to the semi-finals. The semi-finals will again be played on a home-away basis on 6/7 January and 9/10 January 2023.
