Shin Tae Yong Reveals Indonesian Chances to Win AFF Cup

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Shin Tae Yong not denying the crushing defeat in the first leg of the final AFF Cup 2020 make Indonesian National team lost the chance to win, but the South Korean coach still has hope.

The numbers 0-4 listed on the scoreboard indicate the difference in the quality of the Indonesian and Thai games.

After the first meeting, Indonesia and Thailand will meet again. Shin focused on hard work in the second leg which will take place on the first day of 2022.

“Indeed, if you look at today’s match, it is indeed impossible. But the ball is still round if we work hard until the end, and we have to work hard for Indonesia to be sure to get good results,” explained Shin.

“I will not think too much about the score of the first leg. I will give more encouragement to the players so that they can show their best performances such as the performance in the group stage,” said the former South Korean national team midfielder.

In the press conference after the match, Shin evaluated the performance of the Indonesian national team and also revealed the various things that made the Garuda squad concede many goals.

“We admit Thailand is perfect and we have a lot of shortcomings. I admit this defeat and will prepare for the next match,” said Shin.

The AFF Cup has used a two-legged system in the final since 2004. Since that edition, Indonesia has appeared three times in the final.

Indonesia lost two legs against Singapore in the 2004 AFF Cup. The Red and White Team then also lost to Malaysia in the 2010 AFF Cup and lost to Thailand in the 2016 AFF Cup.

Previously, while still using the one-leg format in the final, Indonesia lost twice to Thailand in the 2000 and 2002 AFF Cups.
