Shin Tae Yong Discusses Fair Play Philosophy and Indonesian National Team’s Journey to AFF U-23 Semifinals

Coach Indonesian National team U-23 Shin Tae Yong alluded to the philosophy of fairplay football when responding to the Garuda Muda team qualifying for the semifinals of the AFF U-23 after the Vietnam national team defeated the Philippines.

The Indonesian national team is certain to advance to the semifinals AFF U-23 Cup as group runner-up.

“I have a football philosophy, which is to play with fair play,” said Shin Tae Yong in a press conference ahead of the semifinal match against Thailand, Wednesday (23/8/2023).

Shin Tae Yong also referred to the match between Vietnam and Thailand at the U-19 AFF, which according to him also had fair play.

“When the U-19 AFF Cup was held in Indonesia (last year) in the Thailand vs Vietnam match, I believe the match was fair play. So I think what Vietnam (vs the Philippines) presented in last night’s match was the same,” said Shin Tae Yong.

The South Korean coach also said that the four teams that qualified for the semifinals were decent teams.

“The four teams in the semifinals, namely, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam, I think they deserve to qualify for the semifinals. So I hope the semifinals will present a good match,” he said.

The Garuda Muda team will face Thailand in the match semifinal AFF Cup U-23 which took place at the Rayong Provincial Stadium, Thailand, Thursday (24/8) at 20.00 WIB.

The U-23 AFF Cup semi-final match which brought together the Indonesian national team against Thailand was a replay of the 2023 SEA Games final in Cambodia some time ago.

At that time the Indonesian national team coached by Indra Sjafri came out victorious with a score of 5-2, as well as winning the SEA Games gold medal, since the last time it was won by the Garuda squad in 1991.

The crushing defeat of 2-5 certainly still leaves an impression on the White Elephant Country team. As a result, the semi-final match of the U-23 AFF Cup which took place at their own headquarters will be Thailand’s opportunity to take revenge. (Source: Between)
