Brunei Darussalam head coach Mario Rivera has expressed his frustration with the South Korean referee and Shin Ta Yong after being slaughtered Indonesian national team 0-7 on the game AFF Cup 2022 at the stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Monday (26/12).
Rivera was confused that there were two referees from South Korea who officiated the match between Brunei and Indonesia. Although Indonesia was trained by Shin Tae Yong who is also from South Korea.
The main referee of the Brunei vs Indonesia match was Kim Hee Gon with touch judge Kang Dong Ho. Meanwhile, another line judge has arrived from Thailand, Supawan Hinthong.
Rivera admitted that he had seen something wrong with referee Kim Hee Gon since the start of the first half.
“When you watch goal kick first time and the referee told the goalkeeper to speed up the shot, something must have gone wrong,” Rivera said at a post-match press conference.
Rivera then became even more annoyed after seeing linesman Kang Dong Ho laughing with Shin Tae Yong in the fifth minute.
“And in the fifth minute, the linesman laughed with the Indonesian coach [Shin Tae Yong]because they are both from South Korea. It’s amazing, they don’t respect football, they don’t respect the players” Rivera said.
Brunei had to show up with ten players from the 38th minute after Alinur Rashimy Awang Jufri received a second yellow card. Before that, Brunei was able to keep up with Indonesia’s play and trailed only 0-1.
Subsequently, Brunei’s play declined and they conceded six goals, five in the second half. Brunei was also eliminated from the 2022 AFF Cup.
