Eleven-year-old Sophie and her father Calum spend a holiday together in a Turkish resort – valuable time, since Sophie usually lives with her mother. The relationship between father and daughter is close, but a certain inner absence of Calum creeps into the relationship again and again. Twenty years later, Sophie remembers her last vacation with her father. As an adult and with a new perspective, Sophie tries to reconcile the image she had of him as a child with that of the man whose torment she knew nothing about at the time…

Scottish director Charlotte Wells’ first feature film ripples and shimmers like a swimming pool full of secrets. With remarkable assurance, she lets her film flow naturally, like a haunting and deceptively simple short story. The details pile up; the images reverberate; the unassuming father-daughter relationship is growing in importance. A melancholic (back) view of a childhood. The debut was celebrated at numerous festivals, such as in Cannes or Toronto, and was named number 1 of 2022 by various leaderboards, including Indiewire.
