American skier Mikaela Shiffrin triumphed in the final giant slalom of the World Cup season. In the Andorran center of Soldeu, she won with a time of 1:55.88 minutes. Norwegian Thea Louise Stjernesund finished second with a deficit of six hundredths of a second, and Valerie Grenier from Canada completed the podium (+0.20 s). Slovak skier Petra Vlhová was eliminated in the first round, despite taking 3rd place in the overall ranking.

The 28-year-old American, who already had a big trophy for the overall championship in the World Cup and a small one for the slalom and steeplechase before Sunday’s race, claimed the 88th victory in her career and once again improved the overall record for the number of triumphs.
She also recorded her fourteenth win of the season and the 138th podium of her career, moving one ahead of compatriot Lindsey Vonn and setting a new women’s record. Sweden’s Ingemar Stenmark (155) holds the absolute best. Austrian Marcel Hirscher also has 138 podiums.

At the same time, Shiffrin achieved her 21st victory in the giant slalom, which no woman has ever achieved. In the overall evaluation of the SP, she collected up to 2206 points – 989 more than the second Lara Gutová-Behramiová from Switzerland.
Petra Vlhová she finished in third place in the overall rating (1125 b) and thus placed in the top three for the fifth season in a row. She was fourth in the round (486 b).
“It was a great race today. The second round was tough, the girls really fought. Now I’ll go back to America and spend some time on the beach.” said after the race Shiffrin, who was interviewed by her friend and also elite skier Aleksander Aamodt Kilde from Norway.
In the first round, Vlhová kept going through the blue gate and fell on her inner ski. Even the Italian Federica Brignone and the Swedish Sara Hector did not finish the first race. Shiffrin was leading after the first round with a time of 56.60 seconds. She was ahead of second Canadian Valerie Grenierová by 62 hundredths of a second, Italian Marta Bassinová was in third place with a deficit of 0.63 seconds.

In the second, Maria Therese Tviberg from Norway performed the fastest ride and moved from sixteenth to tenth place. Grenier had the sixth best time and dropped one place when Stjernesund got in front of her after a great and aggressive drive.
Shiffrinová, on the other hand, did not take much risk, she lost to her rivals and was only fifteenth, but in the end it was enough for her to win, when she beat the Norwegian by only six hundredths of a second.
France’s Tessa Worley took eleventh place in her final race of her career and shouted “Merci” to the television cameras at the finish line.
