News about the confirmation of the 37-year-old actor was published on Facebook by the California chapter of the Capuchin Franciscan Order.
“We are pleased to be able to share the news – our dear brother Shia LeBeouf has fully joined the church with the sacrament of confirmation this past weekend,” said a statement from the order’s Western American province.
Speaking to CNA, LeBeouf’s confirmation godfather, Capuchin Brother Alexander Rodriguez, said the actor wants to become a deacon “sometime in the future.”
LeBeouf got the inspiration to consecrate himself to the Catholic Church during the making of the movie “Padre Pio”, said Rodriguez. In the film, LeBeouf plays the Italian Capuchin friar Pio of Pietrelcina.
At one point, LeBeouf “spontaneously said, ‘I want to become a deacon.'” And he still feels that way, said Rodriguez, who also plays a brother in the order in the film.
The consecration ceremony took place in Solvang, California, at the parish of St. Agnes of the Old Mission.
Lebuff’s film career began more than 20 years ago. Among others, he starred in films such as “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps”, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”, as well as three “Transformers” films.
