Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – PT Rajawali Nusantara Indonesia (Persero) / RNI has received imports of six thousand tons gula white crystal (GKP) from a total of 75 thousand tons of assignments this year. The entry of imported sugar is aimed at anticipating the scarcity of sugar commodities that has the potential to occur when the national religious holiday (HBKN) approaches.
President Director of RNI Arief Prasetyo Adi said that in the first stage, on Sunday (28/3/2021), as many as six thousand tons had arrived at the Port of Tanjung Priok, Jakarta.
“[Impor ini dilakukan] “In order to meet the domestic demand for sugar to maintain the stability of sugar prices at the consumer level … It is targeted that this sugar will start filling the consumption market ahead of the fasting month and Eid in order to meet the rising demand,” said Arief in a press release, Monday (29/3/2021) .
He said the next arrival will be at Belawan Port, Medan, around 15 thousand tons and Tanjung Perak Surabaya with around 30 thousand tons. Then in Tanjung Priok around 24 thousand tons will come again during the second and third quarters of this year.
Arief ensured that the GKP that had arrived would immediately be distributed to fill the increasing household consumption market ahead of fasting and Eid.
“We are doing our best to secure stocks of basic necessities, especially ahead of national religious holidays. In securing this sugar commodity, RNI cooperates with other members of the BUMN Food Cluster, namely BGR Logistic and Berdikari Logistik Indonesia, a subsidiary of PT Berdikari, to carry out loading and unloading activities and preparing warehousing facilities, “he explained.
Currently, sugar is still RNI’s main business, with total RNI sugar production in 2020 reaching 200 thousand tons. The development of RNI’s sugar business performance competes with other sugar industries in Indonesia with RNI’s market share in the Indonesian consumption sugar market of around 12%.
